Dr. Janice I. Birr joined the staff of Cape Coral Eye Center in 1992. She is a board certified Doctor of Optometry with over twenty years of experience.

A native Floridian, Dr. Birr was raised in Cape Coral. She graduated from Cypress Lake High School and was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” in her graduating class of 500 students.

Dr. Birr completed her undergraduate studies at Florida Atlantic University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry within 2 ½ years. She was a "Faculty Scholar" at F.A.U. with recognition for high academic achievement.

Dr. Birr did her doctorate studies at the University of Houston, one of only five college students from the State of Florida accepted into an interstate reciprocity program for medical training. She graduated magna cum laude, with high honors, in 1984. After completing her training at Corpus Christi Regional Naval Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, she decided to return to Florida.

Prior to joining Cape Coral Eye Center, Dr. Birr practiced at Cigna Healthplan of Florida in Clearwater from 1985 to 1991. This multi-disciplinary medical center was staffed by 40 doctors of various specialties. While in Clearwater, Dr. Birr was honored as “Cigna Healthplan of Florida Provider of the Year” by her fellow doctors and staff.

Dr. Birr was voted “Best Optometrist in Cape Coral” in the Cape Coral Breeze readers’ poll for 2003. She provides comprehensive eye care with special emphasis on geriatric eye care and Glaucoma.
